Yesterday, on 1 August, the Central Finance and Contracting Agency (CFCA) as the Latvian development cooperation agency signed an agreement with the German development cooperation organisation "GIZ" on the implementation of the project "Improving Governance in Uzbekistan". The contract was signed on behalf of the CFCA by its Director Anita Krūmiņa.
The objective of the project is to assist the anti-corruption reforms in Uzbekistan by implementing various activities that would strengthen the overall resilience of Uzbekistan’s public institutions, its regional and national governmental ecosystem, as well as its national anti-corruption strategy.
The project activities in Uzbekistan are planned to be implemented by the end of 2026 in cooperation with international partners the United Nations, the German development cooperation organisation G.I.Z and the Slovenian civil society organisation Regional Dialogue, as well as with the involvement of several Latvian partner organisations - Transparency International - DELNA, Baltic Centre of Media Excellence and Riga Graduate School of Law - which have extensive experience in strengthening the rule of law and democracy, including in the Eastern Partnership and Central Asia.
The project is funded by the European Commission with a total budget of EUR 1 242 852. This is the second development cooperation project in Uzbekistan concluded by the CFCA as the Latvian Development Cooperation Agency.
